PMOG is something I read about in this last months School Library Journal. Basically it is a different way of browsing the net. PMOG stands for Passive Multiplayer Online Game, and it is kind of interesting.2 comments - Leave a comment
Signing up for it allows me to follow "missions" others have created about a certain topic. I also get the chance to loot treasure, lay mines, and design missions for myself.
I like it because I can see uses in my school. I could say set up a mission about Martin Luther King, and have students follow the pre-set linked webpages all about MLK. It is similar to a social bookmarking site in that it allows me to view and use what others have created/seen, as well as add my own.
It is a new way to browse/surf the net, and is interesting. (Yes right now it is full of early adopters and techno-enthusiasts, and it has some issues, but I see such *possibilities*)
If you are interested in more, here are some links.
I played with PMOG a couple of months ago - it was interesting for a while, and the missions were indeed useful. It didn't have a lot of staying power for me, though.
What's your user ID? I'd be glad to leave you a crate full of goodies to use while you're exploring.
huh. interesting. i think it'd be a nice time-waster "i want to surf the internets but don't know where to surf today" sort of thing.
if it were a school thing, i'd be too tempted to just keep clicking "next" to stop and read anything along the way. even if i were being tested on it. but i was a lousy student, so what do i know? *wink*
